Best time storm to second place under Lisbon's sun

25.03.2024 - Natalie
There's plenty of sunshine in Portugal. It's been years, or this summer exactly a decade, since I was last in Portugal in the summer. As always, it was beautiful, but above all very warm. The fact that the Lisbon Half Marathon & 10K in mid-March was so summery was something we, like tens of thousands of other runners - around 35,000 participants were registered in total - logically regretted due to our sporting plans.

However, starting on the Ponte 25 de Abril in the shadow of the Jesus statue, which is very similar to the world-famous one in Rio de Janeiro, running towards Lisbon over the bridge and along the coast to the finish line, which was located in the western district of Belém in front of the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, was still a unique experience.

While Jonas started over the half marathon distance as in Barcelona, collecting his first SuperHalfs point and running another satisfactory and, in my opinion, a very solid half marathon in 1:11:46 hours, especially considering the warm temperatures, I tackled the Vodafone 10K. This also started 40 minutes after the half marathon at 10.45 am on the Ponte 25 de Abril.

As announced, I didn't flinch but ran boldly and aggressively right from the start. A good 35 minutes later, I turned onto the home straight as the second woman and was able to improve my 10-kilometre personal best after years in 35:45 minutes. The fact that I was the second woman made the day perfect. What a race!
